Understanding the Tragedy
The relentless rains that marked the beginning of May triggered the worst floods
ever recorded in the history of Rio Grande do Sul, where over 1,000 Edenred
Brazil employees live.
This Brazilian state, which is larger than the United Kingdom in terms of
territory, had almost 80% of its cities with a public calamity decree, impacting
more than 2 million people. With more than 130 deaths, the tragedy is also the
second largest in Brazil in the last 10 years.
